Singer and actress Nicole Scherzinger appeared to express her support for Donald Trump in a comment she posted, then deleted, on artist Russell Brand’s incendiary Instagram count on Thursday. Fans and supporters of Scherzinger, who is currently starring in “Sunset Boulevard” on Broadway, reacted largely negatively to his stated interest in purchasing a red MAGA hat.

Scherzinger commented on a photo of Brand holding a red hat that read “Make Jesus First Again.” He posted the photo on Tuesday in celebration of Trump, captioning the post: “God bless America.” The hat is modeled after Trump’s red “Make America Great Again” hats.

“Where do I get this hat!!!?” Scherzinger wrote with prayer hands and a heart-shaped emoji.

She wrote: “Nicole Scherzinger masquerading as a liberal all these years, while at the same time commenting on rapist Russell Brand’s post like a true conservative girl would.” @mihailo____ on X, formerly Twitter.

Critics and fans alike praised Scherzinger’s performance in “Sunset Boulevard,” with many calling the actress a potential Tony winner for the show, something many fans may have joked about in the air after Thursday’s backlash.

“In honor of the passing of Nicole Scherzinger’s Tony chances, the St. James Theatre has announced it will dim its lights on Nov. 7.” @OnstageBlog posted with humor at X.

OnstageBlog also wrote: “I’d really like to know what part of Trump’s platform Nicole Scherzinger supports.” On the podium. “Because I’m pretty sure that’s not their position on capital gains or military spending. “I’m also sure his Sunset Boulevard castmates, crew, dressing rooms, hair and makeup team, and theater staff, whose lives will be irreparably damaged by this administration, would really like to know that too.”

Others noted that they now have no plans to see “Sunset Boulevard.” Like @PiezaDeReSister said like this: “Knowing that Nicole Scherzinger is a Trump supporter today doesn’t bother me because I don’t really care about her. It’s just that I don’t want to see Sunset Boulevard anymore.”

One theatergoer offered a solution: Those who want to see the show can choose to do so on nights when Mandy Gonzalez performs instead of Scherzinger.

Some have also hypothesized that Scherzinger may not have intended to endorse Trump, but simply liked the hat, designed in a way that clearly evokes one of his most famous phrases.

He tweeted: “I don’t really give people the benefit of the doubt, but I don’t think Nicole Scherzinger is claiming to be a Trump supporter, I think she’s just an annoying Christian.” @MediumSizeMeech.

Representatives for Scherzinger and Sunset Boulevard did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment.
