Thu. Dec 5th, 2024

More than 240 million citizens have been called to vote in the US elections 2024 this November 5. Their mission, to elect the 47th president of the United States between two totally different candidates: Donald Trump (Republican) and Kamala Harris (Democrat).

At this hour and according to media projections, Trump is on the verge of becoming U.S. president again and return to the White House with 247 electoral votes to the 214 that he has won Kamala Harris. The former president has won at least three of the seven key states: Pennsylvania (according to Fox News projections), North Carolina and Georgia. These are precisely the three key states that contribute the most delegates in the race to the White House.

The results of the U.S. elections bring to a close a heart-stopping election campaign in which everything has happened, including the assassination attempt on the leader of the RepublicansDonald Trump, and the withdrawal of the candidate from the Democratic Party and even president of the United States, Joe Biden.

The U.S. presidential election results 2024 not only affect its citizens, but also have a worldwide impact. On the winner depends the outcome of numerous international challenges: the future of conflicts such as Ukraine, Israel’s war in Lebanon and Gaza, or trade relations with China (and their effects on the whole world), among other challenges, are in the hands of the new tenant of the White House.

The six key states deciding the new president of the United States.

However, in this electoral event there are six key states in which Donald Trump and Kamala Harris have staked the presidency: Pennsylvania (19), Georgia (16), North Carolina (16), Michigan (15), Arizona (11), Wisconsin (10) and Nevada (6). In total, 93 electoral votes are at stake out of the 538 compromisers that are decided in the U.S. elections.

Although there are many more states in the country, and some of them with a very significant number of delegates, the vast majority of states already had a winner before the US elections were even held on November 5.

And a curious fact, the people of Puerto Rico, who have found themselves at the center of one of the controversies of this election campaign because of Trump’s insults during a rally, can cast their vote in the presidential election. However, this ballot has no validity or influence on the U.S. election outcome.. They can show their preference but not decide. The reason? Puerto Rico is a territory that is part of the country, but has no political status as a state.

The curious reason why U.S. elections are always held on Tuesdays.

As is always the case, these elections are held on the Tuesday after the first Monday of November. The reason for this rule, which has been in law since 1845, is due to the rural past of the United States and the importance of the agricultural world. The month of November was an ideal month. the harvests were over and frosts were not yet severe enough to prevent travel. So, for many citizens, being able to get to the cities to vote required days of travel. In addition, as Saturday and Sunday was a day of rest and prayer for both Christians and Jewsit was decided that Tuesday was the most appropriate day.

2020 presidential election results between Joe Biden and Donald Trump.

The presidential election between the Republican and Democratic candidates was marked by controversy and a heart-stopping vote count. In the end, Joe Biden beat Donald Trump with a wide lead306 electoral votes against 232, but until this result was reached, the vote count was agonizing. States such as Pennsylvania, Georgia, Wisconsin and Michigan, where in 2016 Trump had won against Hillary Clinton, went for Joe Biden, making him the new president of the United States.

However, Trump did not accept defeat and questioned the integrity of the electoral system of the country. And not only that, the former Republican president called into question the legality of millions of votes cast in the 2020 U.S. elections. “They are trying to rig an election and we can’t let that happen. Our goal is to defend the integrity of elections, so we will not allow the corrupt to steal from us,” he said.
